You can study and you will after reading this!

{Gleanings from my studies and counselling}

N.B: As you read, please underline, place a circle or highlight the points YOU feel, you need very much.

Just three points:

1. When to study

2. How to study

3. Where to study

1. When to study

a. Early morning after a restful sleep of about 7 hrs from about 11pm to 5am is our deep sleep, gently get up, say a short prayer {for Christians...even a sign of the cross would do}, go to the washroom, splash water on your face, give a big smile to yourself and then study {A cup of tea or a glass of warm water if you like}

b. One of the best times to study is after about 30 minutes exercise {outdoor game. Take a shower or tepid water bath. BBBs or even skipping 50+50 skipping...Relax for 5 to 10 minutes for sweat. Wow! You are super fresh for study…your one-hour study now is equal to that three-hour cramming!

c. Don’t laugh! It is the third slot for good study…After lunch? No please…Relax with some TV or help in the kitchen. Then, take a nap {not siesta}. It is called beauty nap or memory nap almost 30 minutes circa. More of it becomes sloth! Get up, splash water, drink some tea or juice and study.

II. How to study

a.                  Away from the mobile DURING study. Loud music, chatter hinders concentration. Recent studies have found that gentle, low volume instrumental music helps your study!

b.                  Planning is very important. Make a timetable of every day of the subjects and of the revision holidays. Get help for this important planning.

c.                  Avoid marathon study sessions. Our one attention span is of 7 minutes.  You can have 7 such spans in one go that’s about 50 minutes.  Have a small break after each 50 to 60 minutes. Go to the window, see the green trees and breathe deep and slow OR go to the kitchen and kiss mom (dopamine!)

This way you can have three 60 minutes sessions in the morning and three more in the afternoon...Six hours of effective study!!!

{7x7 is 49! Time is roughly given}

d.                  Don’t sit for study with strong emotional disturbance…angry mom…Karisma girl…!!

e.                   Do not study with heavy stomach or tight or smelly clothes!

III. Where to study

a. Alone in the room, if possible, with soft breeze and gentle light.

b. Avoid clutter on your table and around.

c. Let the wall in front of you be plain…may be very light green colour…Photo? Picure? Yes, if it is an inspiration!!

d. You can also study outdoors. Green colour is good for brain and nerves.

END POINTS {misc}

Hints.!

·        Study looks like a huge mountain. Yes, it is but don’t look at it the whole day. One step at a time.

·      In his book “Atomic Habits” James Clear encourages us. Our BIG habits –good or bad---begin with small.  He calls them atomic...acts repeated…. habits.

·       Comparing yourself with others with feelings of anxiety and jealousy paralyses you. Alan Price sings, "Lord make me the best that I can be…" {search Google}

·        You find it difficult to concentrate! In today’s world to a large extent, IT IS NOT YOUR FAULT!!!

                    Your FOCUS is stolen… willy nilly… by many. Selfishly by media, serials,                                        blatantly cheating advertisements and polluted atmosphere.

·        Good intentioned parents, teachers with unrelaxed minds…may be sometimes     religion…and maybe YOU in your subconscious mind.

                    Is there a way out to excel?

                        Yes!  Be a magnifying glass…the study subject paper under you burns!!

                       Read at least the summary of “Stolen Focus “by John Hari and summary of “7                             Habits for Successful Teens” by Covey’s son {a teen!}

·        Excellence or a verge?

                         Much success depends on your emotional wellness and creative efforts….                                     Abdul Kalam and Bill Gates!!

·      Desire for approval is good but addiction to it may lead one to depression. {Read David Burns ‘Feeling Good’…the new mood therapy.)
