A Chinese story for the new year!
Extend a friendly hand instead of brewing enmity!
He was a hardworking farmer. Besides his fields, he also had cows, chicken and sheep. He was happy-go-lucky man with his wife and children...happy ….till....
A hunter from the town rented the house next to his compound and our peace loving farmer's troubles started! The hunter's wild dogs would jump the wall and chase the hens, kill and eat them. They chased the cows and sheep and made them run helter skelter.
The farmer was much troubled. He complained to hunter. But the hunter just brushed it off," I have not commanded the dogs to jump over your walls! So what can I do? YOU raise your walls, build a cow shed and a poultry pen!"
The dogs continued the attack. The farmer approached the local Sarpanch (quasi judge). He said "Friend, I can punish the hunter and order him to tie his dogs but he will then hate you. Next door neighbor should never be an enemy. I will give YOU a suggestion! Try it!"
The farmer went back, He chose two lovely, adorable lambs and gave them to his two children as his new year gift. Wow! The children instantly fell in love with the lambs. They were so excited and so thrilled playing with them! Both the children improved in their health and studies. The hunter had to build a dog house to keep them away from the two lambs!
The farmer was so happy that occasionally he would gift the hunter some eggs, butter and ghee...The hunter also would give him tasty meat from the forest...The children played together!
